This workshop covers the full complement of sub-plans, methods and procedures that span the typical project life-cycle from initiation to project close. It is designed to give the participant the skills and tools to consistently be an effective project manager. Participants will examine the role of the project manager and their involvement in managing the life-cycle of a project through defining task, time management, scheduling, and resource allocation. Each of the ten PMI Knowledge Areas will be covered in the modules that will be presented to the workshop participants.
Course Code: PM102
Duration: 3 days
Targeted Audience: Novice project managers and anyone interested in PM
What parts of the workshop were most valuable and/or beneficial to you?
Cost analysis - project plan.
Team review after work sessions.
The time the instructor took to do deeper dives and provide concrete examples.
Simulations and project team activities, as well as individual calculations.
Scheduling techniques, allowed me to see a project from the PM's perspective.
Test prep statements, working experiences, simulation.
The building blocks of planning showing the full mechanism from triple constraint to WBS and into close.
The group work was extremely helpful.
Using our real projects as a consistent example throughout.
Group exercises were helpful.
Worksheets and simulation.
I would say equally all parts (as I am new to PM).
Review of WBS and how to chunk the work. This course was a good refresher.
Communication and project planning.
Group work and collaboration.
The fact that I can apply this to my day-to-day, wow.
Working as a group to create/complete project plan exercises.
Communication effectively, organized projects.
WBS and risk analysis were quite useful. Communication plan.
I could imagine practical application of the principles to current projects.
Reviewing/discussing/going deeper than the online prep module with different opinions/experience.
Hands-on exercises help reinforce the theory, i.e., calculating ES EF, LS, LF, float.
Simulator, Prince's experiences, teamwork, barbecue.
Drill down on concepts and the simulation to reinforce concepts.
The PowerPoint presentations.
Course instructor (Prince Knight) made a lecture enjoyable to learn and challenging to reinforce material.
The hands-on exercises and simulations were the best to reinforce PM concepts.
Lecture/slide in presentations appropriate depth and duration. Simulator was an excellent learning and reinforcement.
Coursework; earned value exercises; simulator.
The extra time to explain concepts was readily given.
Exercises and the data calculation.
I liked the hands-on exercises.
Formula especially earned value, PERT estimation with standard deviation.
Simulation and workshops.
Formula and formula exercises.
PMP notes for test.
Simulation, examples a lecture, group exercises.
The simulation helped to best reinforce the material.
The simulations and discussions.
All of it.
All parts!! Helped me to understand PM concepts and formulas.
What improvements should be made to the workshop?
I don't have any suggestions!
The three-day training was a bit too short, would be nice to make it a week.
I think this was a good beginner course - not sure if details on how to calculate
More tailored to our business.
Have team access who’s/which team’s solutions are worth benchmarking.
Nothing, everything was very good.
None, I loved it.
The material could use more examples both good and bad examples.
Actual completed worksheets from real projects would be helpful.
A "concept" list sense in advance so it isn’t all new in a few days. Terminology understanding prep will help.
Nothing that I can think of.
The material felt like quite a lot to cover and too long in parts.
More time on the simulations.
Make it less "game like".
More breaks (but shorter).
Extend the session for simulation exercises. Simulation time took a lot of time.
Start class a little later.
Possibly actual company projects initiating, go through the process. Blended learn/do/recap questions (couldn't be in three simultaneous days).
Tie into six training modules. Things like constructing the components of the project plan.
Allowing one more day to spread out the information.
Introduce more hands-on exercises.
Overlay a company example of a project for process improvement.
Better explanation of simulation software.
I think Prince's workshop was terrific. Great mixture of lecture and simulation.
Less emphasis on software tool.
Add extra earned value exercises, maybe with spreadsheet.
None really - thoroughly enjoy the presentation and training.
Add a short tutorial for the simulation to help with navigating. Also, the last two modules in the book take you from project launch directly to closing the project - the launch section should be closer to the beginning.
Simulator intro module as opposed to help screens.
Slightly more orientation before beginning simulator.
More data in the workbook.
Due to the short duration of the boot camp: less simulator - need to crash more on the PMI facts.
A demo of the simulation system could be added.
The simulation should be explained better before the team starts work on it.
More formula exercises.

Imagine that a coworker asks: what was the workshop like for you? How will you respond?

Very useful. I learned a lot of new concepts and methodologies that I intend to use in my work.
